Ebenezer Scrooge begins as a wealthy, solitary miser who rejects charity, family, and Christmas. The spirits of Christmas Past, Present, and Yet to Come reveal the emotional cost of his choices.

Where this comes from: Dickens gives a detailed physical portrait: old features, pointed nose, shrivelled cheek, red eyes, thin blue lips, frosted hair and brows, and a wiry chin.
